BIO

Big Sugar make a much anticipated return to form with a fully electric record; 10 soul selections with a rootical inflection. Big Sugar’s new album “Calling All The Youth” encompasses what so many people love about Big Sugar: the mind altering dub of “Universal Vampire/All Aboard”, the funky reggae party of “Moving Up”, heavy electric blues of “Reckless and Dangerous” and the gospel-infused rock of “Just Can’t Leave You Alone”- a co-write with the Trews. Frontman Gordie Johnson explains, “The Nyabinghi drums, the dub reggae, the Detroit soul, the Texas blues- all of those things are coming together, sometimes in the same song. Not consciously. We acknowledge all the cultures that collide to make our music, so it just comes out that way.”

Headlining multiple tours and festivals across Canada, Big Sugar has also opened for diverse acts such as the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Live, The Allman Brothers and the upcoming September 2015 concert with AC/DC. In the past year, Big Sugar has been recorded for the European broadcast ROCKPALAST, played with Triggerfinger on a sold out tour across Europe, completed a 45 city headlining tour of Canada, played Austin, TX during SXSW Music Festival and is currently playing select summer festivals ahead of a Canadian national electric tour.
